MUSEUM OF BIBLICAL & SACRED WRITINGS

2011 - 2012 UPDATED REPORT

The State of California

In a land as culturally rich and diverse as Southern California, it is of utmost importance that the Museum of Biblical & Sacred Writings has been established in Irvine, California.

Founded in 2008 in temporary quarters on the former El Toro Marine Base, the Museum is currently advancing in new facilities near the Irvine Spectrum in central Orange County.

The Museum

The Museum has access to many holdings, including seven of the major Dead Sea Scrolls in facsimile, a Hebrew Torah Sefer Scroll from the 19th Century, and extensive Bible translations exhibit along with the 400th anniversary exhibit of the King James Version, and a number of Ancient Near East artifacts. The Educational Program of the Museum is ongoing with lecture series and archaeology classes for students of all ages. The semiannual lecture series have brought together scholars of ancient manuscripts from US universities as well as international universities.

Our Mission & Purpose is to provide a public museum, a research center for scholars, and an educational facility for students to pursue the study of ancient historical texts, archaeological artifacts, and other ancient writings. As development funds increase, the Museum will seek to sponsor archaeological excavations in various parts of the world. With its focus on ancient biblical and other sacred writings, the Museum will continue to bring together scholars to share their latest research in these related areas.

The various Divisions of the Museum are and will be:

  1. The Educational Center of Biblical & Sacred Writings

  2. Ancient Near East Writings

  3. Arabic & Persian Writings

  4. Classical Greek Writings

  5. Museum of the Bible & Biblical Archaeology

  6. Museum of Biblical Art

  7. Museum Research Library

  8. History On The Move Study Tours

Five of these Divisions are under way. As part of the Educational Center, we have also also developed the following classes thus far for various student levels:

  1. The Dead Sea Scrolls and Archaeology

  2. The Dead Sea Scrolls & the Bible

  3. Ancient Writings & Archaeology

  4. Introduction to Archaeology

  5. Introduction to Museum Studies

  6. Ancient Writings & History

  7. The Torah Scribe & his Practice

New Facilities

Our present facilities involve sharing a portion of the Irvine Institute of Technology building, wherein we are developing the Research Library, Exhibit Space, and Administrative Offices. We have the opportunity in October of this year to take over the entire first floor of this building, which would add 10,000 sq. ft. to our office and exhibit space. This wonderful opportunity would allow us to continue our Mission & Purpose of being a public and educational facility for students to experience Bringing the Ancient World & Writings to Light.

While our goal of moving into final permanent facilities has not been accomplished, we are in the process of raising funds for our future facility goal. Our overall goal is to raise $5,000,000 for facility expansion and the purchase of other Museum manuscripts and documents. If you are interested in contributing to specific projects, allow us to list those that we seek for the immediate future:

  1. Dead Sea Scrolls Facsimile Collection:         $60,000

  2. Research Library Cataloging Systems:         $4,000

  3. Exhibit Showcases:                                       $60,000

  4. Development of Added 10,000 sq. ft:            $500,000

Thank you for your consideration of partnering with us in this exciting venture. Please consider investing in the Museum as we develop it in Southern California.
